Rob Burton studied at Liverpool Polytechnic (1984-87) and Birmingham Polytechnic (1987-89). At Teesside University, in his role as Head of Design, Rob leads a vibrant design department with dynamic research informed teaching and key industry partnerships. Rob Burton is a visual artist and critical thinker who explores themes of memory, loss and transformation through fiber, fabric making, print, drawing and mixed media.

Rob Burton’s textile and fibre artworks cross the threshold of disciplines in a conceptual dialogue between the innovative use of analogue, contemporary and emerging techniques and technologies and critical thinking. Rob has recently exhibited internationally in group exhibitions, biennials and triennials in the USA, Europe, China and the UK. Rob is currently working in collaboration with sound, screendance and performing artists on projects that bring together conceptual garments for performance and site-specific and gallery installation. Rob is currently studying for a Phd by completed work entitled, 'An Exploration of Trace, Memory and ‘The Fold’ through Making, Meaning and Materiality'
